About

Stephen Brown is a Baltimore-based neurology researcher moonlighting as a journalistic and portrait photographer. He’s spent three years working as a photographer in the Gettysburg College Communications and Marketing Department, on a variety of assignments ranging from one-on-one portraiture to high pressure event photography. He has also worked abroad for the Danish Institute of Study Abroad as a student photojournalist. Since 2017, he has worked as a freelance photographer and pursued more of his own creative endeavors.

He is primarily interested in contrasting large scale environments and light with human subjects, exploring the evocation of different emotions. Large monuments and symmetrical architecture can dwarf you, bringing about sensations of loneliness and smallness, just as harsh shadows and deep colors can conjure feelings of intimacy or vulnerability. His hope is that every one of his images captures a moment in time or a particular feeling that is relatable to everyone, regardless of the viewer’s relationship to the subject or location.
